SENATE BILL 522 (SB522)

Prohibits the use of plastic bottles, utensils, stirring sticks, polystyrene foam containers, and straws by state agencies by July 1, 2021, and by businesses selling food and beverages by July 1, 2022. Bans the distribution or sale of plastic bags after July 1, 2023. Bans the sale or distribution of single-use plastic beverage containers after July 1, 2025. Creates the plastic source reduction working group to make recommendations for eliminating single-use plastic packaging. Appropriates funds.

SENATE BILL 11

Prohibits the sale of polystyrene foam containers and serving of prepared foods using polystyrene foam containers statewide. Authorizes the Department of Health to adopt rules to implement the prohibition and include within its administrative rules a requirement for food vendors to educate their customers about proper disposal of nonreusable food containers and litter reduction. Takes effect on July 1, 2020.

Prohibits food service businesses and stores from the sale, use, or distribution of polystyrene foam containers, expanded polystyrene food service products, plastic straws, and plastic bags.
