WHERE DID YOUR POKE COME FROM?

The Hawaiian seafood industry is a multi-billion dollar one. While most fish is advertised as "locally caught," a deeper look finds that isn't always true, at least not in the way the public is misled to believe. These are the things you should consider before purchasing seafood.

How was it caught?

There are many unsustainable ways to catch seafood that result in high amounts of bycatch. Bycatch is comprised of unintended catch. This can be anything from the wrong species or even just the wrong size of the right species. Bycatch is usually thrown back overboard dead, a wasteful practice that kills hundreds of thousands of whales, dolphins, sea turtles, seabirds, sharks, seals, sea lions, and more every year.
