HOW TO HELP MINKE WHALES IN NORWAY

1. CONTACT THE FISHERIES MANAGER

There are so many reasons to end the hunt for minke whales. Send the fisheries manager of Norway, Harald T. Nesvik, a message and remind him that:

  • the demand for whale meat has dropped dramatically over the years

  • sighting of minke whales are also dropping

  • prior testing of whale meat has presented dangerous levels of PCBs, dioxide, and pesticide contamination

  • eco-tourism and whale watching have proven over and over again that a live whale is worth more than a dead one

  • with so little known about these whales, we may lose them before we have the chance to

2. SPREAD THE WORD

A common type of whale meat consumer in Norway is actually visitors! A dish of whale meat is offered as a type of tourist attraction in many place and visitors may not realize what they're contributing to or how toxic the meat is to consume! Make sure you share this information to your friends and family so they don't mistakenly partake in this experience while visiting Norway! You can also share a bit of info on your social media platforms to encourage your friends and followers to contact the Fisheries Manager as well! We're stronger in numbers and minke whales need all of our voices!
